Havre to Great Falls Line

Farming and the Missouri River are the dominating features of this scenic secondary main line. All the way from Havre to Fort Benton, the tracks run mostly straight over flat farming land, cutting through endless grain fields. There are several small towns along this part of the line, all mostly shipping huge amounts of grain and cattle over the Great Northern.

The southern half of the line, however, is characterized by the tremendous Missouri River canyon. The rails wind along dusty cliffs for most of the time, Fort Benton is the only major town in this part of the line. However, prepare for a very scenic ride! It is altogether different from Marias Pass, but nonetheless stunningly beautiful. Lots of custom terrain textures help recreating this nowadays mostly closed line.

At the end of the line you will get to the city the Great Northern built: Great Falls, MT. Several lines meet here: the Sweet Grass line to the northwest, the line from Havre, and the lines from Billings and Helena. Besides the G.N., the Milwaukee Road also built into the city, but the G.N. dominates everything. At Great Falls, you will find a big yard, several industries, and a beautiful passenger depot.
